One stroke was all that separated Waunakee and DeForest.

Playing in breezy conditions, to say the least, the Warrior boys’ golf team edged the Norskies to finish first at the Monona Grove Invitational on Tuesday, April 23.

“So proud of our team today,” said Waunakee head coach Betsy Zadra. “They grinded and battled all day through wind gusts up to 40 mph and took first place in the Monona Grove Mini Meet on Tuesday at The Oaks Golf Course.”

In difficult scoring conditions, Waunakee shot an impressive 304, with KC Nickel carding a 1-over par 72 to earn medalist honors. Zadra was blown away.

“It seemed like KC was playing inside a bubble as the wind didn’t seem to bother him at all,” said Zadra. “Peyton Albers also had an amazing round shooting a 2-over par 73 and took second place overall. Shout out to AJ Ziegler who had a top ten finish and took ninth place with a 79. Drew Berres shot 80 and took 11th place, and Brady Piazza had an 83 and finished in 15th place.”

    Edgewood Invitational

The Warriors tied for second at The Edgewood Invitational at Blackhawk Country Club, as Waunakee and Middleton shot a 323. Janesville Craig took first place with a score of 314.

“Peyton Albers led the Warriors with a fantastic round of 73 in difficult scoring conditions and finished in third place overall,” said Zadra. “KC Nickel shot a 79 for 10th place. Drew Berres tied for 13th place with an 81. Brady Piazza shot 90 and Peter Wangerin had a 92 in his first varsity match.”
