Hitting a rough patch, the Waunakee softball dropped three games last week, extending the Warriors’ losing skid to five games.

Defeats at the hands of Watertown, Madison West and Oregon have left the Warriors with a 2-5 overall record. The Warriors were outscored 29-4 in those losses.

In falling to West 10-3 on Monday, April 15, Waunakee collected four hits, with Zaria Hyman, Haiden Paulsen, Jade Keane and Olivia Bartnick each recording one. Keane had a double and an RBI, and pitcher Isabella Labracco also drove in a run. In the pitcher’s circle, Labracco took the loss, allowing five runs — only one of which was earned. She struck out two. Avary Abercrombie fanned two in her three innings of work, while giving up five runs. As was the case with Labracco’s outing, just one of the runs Abercrombie allowed was earned.

Next up was an 8-0 shutout on Thursday, April 18, against Watertown. At the top of the order, Amanda Comins went 2-for-3, as did Labracco, who also pitched. Two of the eight runs she allowed were earned, with Labracco notching four strikeouts. Comins and Paulsen both had doubles. Waunakee batters struck out 11 times in the loss.

Pounding out 12 hits, Oregon downed Waunakee 11-1 on Friday, April 19, in a road game for the Warriors. Avery Schwab had two of Waunakee’s three hits and an RBI, with Hyman getting the other and scoring the Warriors’ lone run. The Warriors are 0-3 in Badger Large Conference play.

Fort Atkinson 10, Waunakee 2Kaylee Jordan had three hits, including a home run, as Fort Atkinson’s softball team routed host Waunakee 10-2 in Badger Large play on Monday.

Jordan, who was 3-for-4, led off the game by launching a 1-1 pitch over the fence in left field. Mia Bilau singled home a pair for the Blackhawks (2-6, 1-2 in conference) in the second.

Macey Pease, who was 5-for-5, singled in a run in the fourth to make it 5-0.

The Blackhawks’ sixth included consecutive RBI doubles by Pease and Olivia Rue and a two-out two-run double to left by Aubrey Meacham.

Fort starter Leah Fehrman pitched the distance to earn the decision.
