    Top performers honored in track and field, golf, boys tennis, softball and baseball

    Even with rain slowing down the end of the week schedule , there was still plenty of top area athletic performers for April 22-28. Here goes:

    Boys Track and Field

    David VanVeen and Kyson Fayant, Aberdeen Central — VanVeen won the 800 (2:05.69), 1,600 (4:34.11) and 3,200-meter (9:51.54) runs in a dual with Watertown. Fayant won the 100 (16.96) and 300 (43.25) hurdles.

    Boaz Raderschadt, Shey Coltrin and James Clendenin, Watertown — Raderschadt took the shot put (54-0.75) and discus (157-10.25) in the dual with Aberdeen Central. Coltrin and Clendenin each ran on the winning 400 (45.48) and 800 (1:37.64) relays).

    Luke Fraser, Zac VanMeeteren and Rylan Thue, Hamlin — In the Clark-Willow Lake Cyclone meet, Fraser won the 200 (23.55) and VanMeeteren the 400 (54.78) dash and both ran on the winning 400 (45.09), 800 (1:34.47) and 1,600 (3:42.21) relays along with Thue.

    Oliver Fieber, Axel Gallardo, Gavin Kloos and Robert Begalka, Deuel — Fieber won four events in two meets last week. He won the 100 (11.23) and 200 (23.25) dashes and ran on the winning 400 (46.42) and 800 (1:35.71) relays in the Estelline Alumni Invite. He also won the 100 (11.2) and 200 (22.98) dashes and ran on the winning 400 (46.16) and 1,600 (1:36.73) in the Sisseton Legion Relays. Gallardo and Kloos ran on the winning 400 and 800 relays in both meets. Begalka won the shot put (48-6.75) and discus (139-11) at Estelline and the shot put (48-3) and discus (141-6.75) at Sisseton.

    Sean Seurer, Nicholas Schalachter and Landon Larson, Potter County —In the Yellowstone Trail Conference meet, Seurer won the 100 dash (11.71) and ran on the winning 400 (48.85) and 800 (1:41.32) relays. Schlachter won the 1,600 (4:57.91) and 3,200 (11:03.92) runs and also ran on the winning medley (4:03.92). Larson took the long jump (19-5) and ran on the winning 800 and medley relays.

    Bryan Meyer and Emmett Hanson, Milbank — Meyer won the 800 (2:10.4) run and ran on the winning 1,600 (3:39.85) and 3,200 (9:20.05) relays in the Rob Luecke Invite at Groton. Hanson took the 110 (15.31) and 300 (44.88) hurdles and ran on the winning 1,600 relay.

    Kaleb Foltz, Tri-State — Foltz won the 400 (50.85) dash and the 800 (2:08.03) and 1,600 (4:33.73) relays in the Sisseton Legion Relays.

    Girls Track and Field

    Alayna and Victoria Smith, Grace McElroy and Shauna Evenson, Watertown — A. Smith won the 100 (13.10) and 200 (27.21) and ran on the winning 800 (1:52.75), V. Smith won the 400 dash (1:03.8) and ran on the winning 800 and 1,600 (4:30.24) relays. McElroy won the 1,600 (5:36.1) and 3,200 (11:50.81) relays. Evenson won the triple jump (34-10) and ran on the winning 1,600 relay.

    Mya Arampatzis and Ciara Frank, Aberdeen Central — Arampatzis won the 100 (15.49) and 300 hurdles (49.5). Frank tied for first in the high jump (5-2) and ran on the winning 400 (51.18) relay.

    Breanna Jochim, Herreid-Selby Area — Jochim notched wins in the 100 (12.67) and 200 (27.94) and long jump (16-5.75) in the Yellowstone Trail Conference meet.

    Emma Schlachter and Jadyn Alhlemeier, Potter County — In the YTC meet, Schlachter won the 400 (1:02.03) dash and ran on the winning 1,600 (4:27.45) and medley (4:41.13) relays. Ahlemeier won the 800 (2:43.6) and 1,600 (6:07.32) relays and ran on the winning 1,600 relay.

    Sophie Kannas and Katherine Prahl, Great Plains Lutheran — Kannas won the 100 (13.04) and 200 (27.54) dashes and ran on the winning 400 (54.45) in the Clark-Willow Lake Cyclone Meet. Prahl won the 100 (16.63) and 300 (50.91) hurdles and also ran on the winning 400 relay.

    Kamryn Nesheim, Johanna Vandersnick and Cadence Bochek, Clark-Willow Lake — Nesheim won the 1,600 (5:21.57) run and ran on the winning 1,600 (4:23.16) and 3,200 (10:42.88) relays in the CWL Cyclone Meet. Vandersnick and Bochek each ran on three winning relays.

    Ella Kopplin and Jayda Townsend, Milbank — Kopplin and Townsend ran on the winning 1,600 (4:18.16), medley (4:38.77) and 3,200 (10:18.04) relays in the Rob Luecke Invite.

    McKenna Tietz, Laila Roberts, Rylee Dunker, Taryn Traphagen and Jerica Locke, Groton Area — In the Sisseton Legion Relays, Tietz won the 100 (17.83) and 300 (51.55) hurdles and ran on the winning 400 (54.1) and 1,600 relays (4:21.69). Roberts, Dunke, Traphagen and Locke each ran on three winning relays.

    Ella Boekelheide, Northwestern — She won the 800 (2:23.5) and 1,600 (5:11.31) runs at the Miller Booster Club meet and 400 (1:01.75) dash and 800 (2:26) run in the Sisseton Legion Relays.

    Boys Golf

    Lane and Larz Tvedt and Davis Gales, Castlewood — Lane won medalist honors in the Hamlin Invitational with an eight-over 80 and brother Larz finished third with an 83. Gales was fourth with an 84 for the Warriors, who won the team title with a 247.

    Michael Dorsett, Webster Area and Logan Vavruska, Florence-Henry — Dorsett took second (82) and Vavruska fifth (85) in the Hamlin Invitational.

    Seth Hettick and Harrison Beyers, Edmunds Central — Hettick shot a 78 to win the Miller Invitational. Beyers was fifth with an 80 for EC, which took second with a 248 score.

    Girls Golf

    Olivia Braun, Emma Dohrer and Kyley Wirebaugh, Aberdeen Central — The Golden Eagles shot 322 and won the Hub City Invite at the Moccasin Creek Country Club with help from Braun, who earned medalist honors with a 1-under 71. Dohrer was seventh (82) and Wirebaugh 10th (84). Central also shot 333 and took second in the Pierre Invite with Braun taking fifth (78), Wirebaugh eighth (83) and Dohrer 10th (83).

    Shelby Pearson, Avery Palmquist, Gabi Olson & Aspen Reynolds, Watertown — The Arrows were second in the Hub City Invite with a 323. Pearson finished third (78), Palmquist sixth (80) and Olson eighth (83). Watertown also was third in the Pierre Invite (336) with Palmquist sixth (81), Reynolds seventh (83) and Olson ninth (83).

    Carly Guthmiller, Groton Area — Guthmiller shot to notch a three-shot win with a 89 in the POET Invite at Milbank.

    Claire Crawford, Grace Seyer and Morgan Helms, Aberdeen Roncalli — Crawford won medalist honors with a 97 to lead Roncalli to the team title (407) score in the Redfield Invite. Seyer took third (100) and Helms fifth (104). Roncalli also took second in the POET Invite at Milbank with Seyer finishing third (95) and Crawford fifth (96).

    Camila Monroy, Milbank and Elliot Hortness, Sisseton — Monroy took second (100) and Hortness fourth (103) in the Redfield Invite.

    Brynn Roehrich, Clark-Willow Lake — Roehrich won the Hamlin Invite by 10 shots with a 12-over 84. She led the Cyclones to the team title with a 305 score.

    Caitlyn Cradduck of Sioux Valley and Victoria Preheim of Deuel — Cradduck finished second with a 94 and Preheim third with a 97 in the Hamlin Invite.

    Mollie Simon, Ipswich — Simon took third in the Miller Invite with a 96.

    Boys Tennis

    Justin Remmers, Evan Meester and Matthew Bertsch, Watertown — The Arrows had a rough week, beating Brookings 9-0 and losing to Sioux Falls Christian 6-3, Brandon Valley and Harrisburg each 5-4, O'Gorman 9-0 and Yankton 7-2, Remmers went 4-2 at No. 2 singles and joined with Skyler Stanton to go 3-3 at No. 2 doubles. Meester went 3-3 at No. 2 and Bertsch 3-3 at No. 6 singles. Meester and Curtis Sneden also were 3-3 at No. 1 doubles.

    Mason Ligon and Mika Dannen, Aberdeen Central — The Golden Eagles beat Sioux Falls Roosevelt 9-0 and lost to Sioux Falls Washington 8-1, Mitchell 9-0 and Sioux Falls Jefferson 6-3 last week. Ligon won two matches at No. 2 singles and two matches at No. 1 doubles with AJ Prehn. Dannen added two singles wins at No. 5 and a doubles win at No. 2 with Gannon Pederson.

    Palmer Johnson and Gannon May, Aberdeen Roncalli — Roncalli went 5-0 in the Sioux Falls Invite, posting 8-1 wins over Madison, Vermillion and Spearfish; a 5-4 win over St. Thomas More and a 6-3 win over Lennox. Johnson (No. 2 singles) and May (No. 3 singles) each went 5-0. The duo also teamed to go 4-1 at No. 1 doubles.

    Dan Shelstad, Milbank — The Bulldogs went 2-2 in the Sioux Falls Invite, beating Vermillion 5-4 and Spearfish 8-1 and losing to Lennox 8-1 and Rapid City Christian 9-0. Shelstad went 3-1 at No. 5 singles for Milbank.

    Softball

    Savanna Guthmiller and Abby Axtell, Sioux Valley — Guthmiller had two hits including a walk-off two-run triple in a 4-2 win over Deuel. Guthmiller also added four hits and six RBIs in 9-0 and 21-2 wins over Milbank. Axtell went 3-for-3 with four RBIs in a 13-5 win over Colman-Egan anhd 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs in a 14-9 loss to Beresford.

    Katrina Hagberg, Deuel — Hagberg fired a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts in five innings and also doubled and drove in two runs in a 4-1 win over Sioux Valley. She also had 10 strikeouts in a 4-2 loss to Sioux Valley, 13 strikeouts and a homer in a 7-5 win over Flandreau and 13 strikeouts in a 10-0 loss to Beresford.

    Grace Overland and Amber Vetch, Mobridge-Pollock — Overland fanned seven batters in three innings and joined Vetch with three runs and three RBIs apiece in a 24-0 win over Chamberlain.

    Elizabeth Reiter and Haley Hlavacek, Florence-Henry — Reiter had two hits at the plate and eight strikeouts on the mound and Hlavacek drove in three runs with a double and a homer in a 6-4 win over Baltic. Hlavacek also went 3-for-3 with a double, homer and four RBIs and Reiter had two hits and tossed a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts in a 13-0 win over Milbank.

    Kendyl Siebrecht, Redfield — Siebrecht went 3-for-3 with a homer, two runs scored and two RBIs in a 16-1 in over Milbank.

    Joce Kettwig, Milbank — In a 16-1 loss to Redfield and a 13-0 loss to Florence-Henry, Kettwig collected Milbank's only hit.

    Addie Steffensen and Harley Johnson, Arlington — The Cardinals swept Oldham-Ramona-Rutland 21-5 and 16-0 with Steffensen going 7-for-7 with six runs scored in the twinbill. Johnson homered in the first game and tossed a one-hitter along with a triple and a double in the second game.

    Aleia Johnston, Alexa Brown and Jade Lund, Watertown — The Arrows beat Sioux Falls Roosevelt 4-1 and lost to Yankton 6-2 and O'Gorman 14-10 last week. Brown fanned eight batters and joined Lund with two hits against Roosevelt. Brown also had two hits against O'Gorman. Johnston had a double and a single against Yankton and drove in four runs with a single and homer against O'Gorman.

    Jayla Breaw and Ayrlie Waldo, Aberdeen Central — Breaw hit a double and a single in a loss to O'Gorman and also had two hits in a loss to Yankton. Waldo drove in three runs with a triple and two singles against Yankton.

    Baseball

    Christopher Moberg and Kameron Hauck, Sioux Valley — Moberg went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Hauck 2-for-3 with two RBIs in a 13-0 win over Oldham-Ramona-Rutland. Hauck also fired a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts in five innings.

    Dillon Abeln, Groton Area — Abeln was the hard-luck loser in a 1-0 loss to Madison-Chester, scattering seven hits in seven innings.

    Kevin Weller and Erik Salmen, Redfield Area — Weller went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs in a 16-5 win over Oldham-Ramona-Rutland. Weller went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and four RBI. Weller also pitched three innings and Salmen two, combined for eight strikeouts, on the mound.
