WASHINGTON, N.C. (WNCT) — A combination of boats and bicycles took over Mac “Bear” Hodges Park in Washington on Thursday as the Bike NC Coastal Ride opened up for its ride this weekend.

The ride features over 1,300 participants, spanning in age from 4-91 with the average age being 63. Two riders, Jennifer Betts and Scott Yamanashi, say that these rides are encouraging in a physical and meditative way.

“What keeps me going the most is that I am 52 years old and I can still cycle 100 miles in a day. I am not ready to get old yet,” said Jennifer Betts, a registered nurse and participating cyclist.

“I’m looking forward to the 100. To say I can do 100 miles in one day and do it in a respectable amount of time before they close the course,” Scott Yamanashi said.

The event starts Friday and will go through Sunday. Click the video above for the full story.
