Violent weekend in D.C. sees two killed, six wounded

Two shootings, one of them deadly, erupted in the District’s nightlife centers and a fatal stabbing took place outside Audi Field during a bloody weekend in the nation’s capital.

Metropolitan Police said the violence started shortly before 11:30 p.m. Friday, when an argument inside a Dupont Circle bar spilled over into gunfire on the street.

Authorities said a gunman shot six people, including employees, outside of the Decades nightclub in the 1200 block of Connecticut Avenue NW.

All of the victims, which included staff members at the bar, are expected to survive the shooting, police said.

Officers at the scene arrested Rennwel Mantock, 29, of Hyattsville, Maryland, and recovered a gun.

The Metropolitan Police Department shut down Decades for the rest of the weekend following the incident, according to a notice placed on the bar’s front door.

A deadly shooting broke out in the U Street Corridor hours after the Dupont Circle shooting.

Police said an unidentified man was gunned down around 2 a.m. Saturday in the 1300 block of U Street NW.

Authorities shared a lookout for two males, with one of the men described as wearing a white or gray sweatshirt and riding a motorcycle.

By Saturday evening, police said a man was stabbed to death near Audi Field as D.C. United fans were beginning to trickle into the stadium.

The victim was stabbed multiple times around 6:30 p.m. in the 100 block of T Street SW. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Authorities said a suspect was in custody.

The stabbing occurred roughly an hour before D.C. United kicked off against the Seattle Sounders at 7:30 p.m. There was no delay to the start of the match.

"This was an isolated incident, and the Metropolitan Police Department has advised that they have the suspect in custody,” the soccer team said in a statement.
