Out for Inlander Restaurant Week: Nekojita Ramen
While I was the Inlander’s food editor for several years (2017-2022), I don’t often get the chance these days to cover new restaurant openings. Yet I made a point to when Nekojita Ramen, Chef Joseph O’Neal’s Japanese-inspired eatery inside the Washington Cracker Co. Building, debuted last fall after many months of planning.

Out for Inlander Restaurant Week: Kuni’s Thai Cuisine
Despite being a Monday evening, the parking lot at Kuni’s Thai Cuisine in North Spokane was quickly filling up. As a South Hill dweller, I don’t often find myself in the Fairwood neighborhood, but ever since I heard about Kuni’s I’ve been itching to try the menu of Thai-style cuisine and other Asian fare.

Out for Inlander Restaurant Week: Spencer’s for Steaks & Chops
For me, Inlander Restaurant Week has always been about trying new-to-me restaurants. Last year, Indicana was a major hit for me. The year prior, Kismet swept me off my feet. This year, I went a bit more traditional by checking out Spencer’s — a Spokane institution that I’d yet to try as a native to the Lilac City.

A feature-length documentary capturing Gonzaga men’s basketball’s “historic run under longtime coach Mark Few will premiere on streaming platform Tubi starting March 6,” according to Theo Lawson of the Spokane SPOKESMAN-REVIEW. The 74-minute documentary, titled “Gonzaga: The Slipper Still Fits,” has been “more than two years in the making.” The film features “more than a dozen interviews with former Gonzaga players now in the NBA.” A film crew led by director David Check obtained “behind-the-scenes footage of Gonzaga during the 2023-24 season, following the team at home and road games” (Spokane SPOKESMAN-REVIEW, 2/25). The HOLLYWOOD REPORTER’s Ryan Gajewski noted the documentary was produced by Thomas Tull and hails from Teton Ridge Entertainment and Words + Pictures. Taste Budz Review: Luna Spokane
For Valentine’s Day, Zack and I decided to check out Luna on the South Hill in Spokane; we were drawn to the name, as that’s what we’d like to name a daughter one day. The ambiance of Luna was perfect for Valentine’s Day, with unique decor such as birdcage chandeliers, dim lighting, and a cozy setting.

Schmidty's Burgers says farewell to Coeur d'Alene
Denise Schmidt and her husband, Nate, have never shied away from a challenge. After losing their restaurant on Fourth Street to a fire in 2020, the couple bounced back, reopening Schmidty’s Burgers at 1524 E. Sherman Ave. less than a year later. They transformed the white-walled, concrete space into one full of character, shaping every design choice from the flooring to the layout of the kitchen and dining space.

Train Dreams began with an unexpectedly rough plane landing. Now it may fly high at the Oscars
Train Dreams, director Clint Bentley’s transcendent locally set and shot film about troubled logger Robert Grainier (played by Joel Edgerton) living through a rapidly evolving, often perilous early 20th century Pacific Northwest, has become a cause célèbre for the talented local crew who brought it to life and the producers who’ve seen it become a sleeper awards contender.
