WALL TOWNSHIP — Old Wall Historical Society, one of Wall Township’s archival organizations, held a costume jewelry sale this past Sunday, an event that supports the society’s efforts in preserving its buildings on site.

On display in the society’s Victorian-era schoolhouse – which is part of a three-building site on New Bedford Road – were bright and shiny pieces of bijouterie and clothing for patrons to purchase, all donated by locals.

“It was a huge success…,”said Old Wall Historical Outreach Coordinator Heather Stout. “There was a steady stream [of people], throughout the course of the day between 75 to 100 people through there.” The event ran from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, the only day of the week the society is open.

Such items included anklets, bracelets, necklaces, scarves, headwear, purses and pocketbooks and various items laid across the desks and tables of the schoolhouse classroom, all selling for reasonable prices.

The society, run by President and Wall Township Historian De Hearn,  is “devoted to the preservation and education of Wall Township’s history through annual local events and lectures,” its website says.

The Homestead Museum once belonged to James Allgor, who served in Wall Township as a farmer, salvage master for the area’s beachfront and on the township committee; he was on the dais in 1851, when the township was officially incorporated after disbanding from Howell Township.
