    Man allegedly steals shoes at gunpoint

    On April 23, officers responded to Butte Place in Waldorf around 6:30 p.m. for the report of an armed robbery.

    Upon arrival, officers located a man who reported that he was forced to get into a black Honda Civic at gunpoint where he recognized the man driving the car as Joshua Dylan Marable, 18, as they had both previously attended North Point High School together, charging documents say.

    Once in the car, Marable drove the man to Athens Place but then returned to where he allegedly forced him in the car. Once at the destination, Marable allegedly told the man, “Give me your shoes.”

    The man refused, and Marable allegedly aimed his firearm at him again. He gave Marable his $1,500 Balenciaga shoes, got out of the car and walked home, the documents say.

    Using the information the man was able to provide, officers were able to identify Marable and detain him. The shoes were recovered after a brief search, charging documents say.

    Marable now faces felony theft, armed robbery and first-degree assault charges.

    Man allegedly assaulted after finding home invader

    Charles sheriff’s officer Matthew McCuen filed charges on April 26 against Jimmy Gomez Cabrera, 22, for an alleged April 14 burglary and assault.

    Gomez-Cabrera, who has no fixed address, was found in a man’s home after he returned from work at approximately 11 a.m., charging documents say. The man knew Gomez-Cabrera.

    Charging documents say that Gomez-Cabrera allegedly assaulted the man, resulting in injuries to his face and left eye. Gomez-Cabrera then allegedly attempted to take items from a bedroom and struck the man again.

    The man reported that several items were missing from the residence, including power tools, money, bedding and cigarettes. The total estimated value of the goods was $557.

    Gomez-Cabrera is charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree assault and misdemeanor theft.

    Thefts from stores investigated

    Daniel Jerome Ball, 54, of Waldorf was identified and charged on April 22 for allegedly robbing the Best Buy at 11725 Berry Road in Waldorf in October 2023.

    Ball was seen on security cameras going into the store and speaking with an employee to gain access to cameras and laptops to examine them, charging documents say. He went to the front of the store with the items, allegedly pretending he was going to buy the items before grabbing them from the counter, fleeing the store and entering a vehicle that was waiting outside for him, the documents say.

    Items stolen included a Macbook Air laptop and Canon camera, which have a combined value of $2,049.

    Officers identified Ball by tattoos on his arm and an arrest photograph from a prior incident. Glasses that Ball was wearing during the alleged Best Buy theft were recovered in his vehicle when he was arrested in another separate incident, charging documents say.

    Ball was charged with felony theft between $1,000 to $25,000.

    According to district court records, St. Mary’s County authorities issued a summons for Ball to appear in court on charges he robbed the Best Buy in St. Mary’s County last October.

    According to documents filed by Deputy Max Schell of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, Ball is alleged to have taken a boxed Playstation out of the arms of a clerk at Best Buy, assaulting the clerk in the process and fleeing the store. Ball is charged with robbery, second-degree assault and theft in St. Mary’s.

    Man arrested after being found with stolen car

    On April 28, officers responded to East Raymond Avenue in Indian Head around 11:25 a.m. for the report of a suspicious vehicle parked in a driveway.

    Upon arrival, officers observed a black Hyundai sedan and conducted a search on the vehicle’s registration. It was discovered that the vehicle was stolen out of Greenbelt, according to charging documents.

    Approaching the vehicle, officers found a man, later identified as Tyre Isaiah Bonds-Bishop, 20, of Indian Head, asleep in the driver seat. Officers woke Bonds-Bishop up and ordered him out of the vehicle, the documents say.

    After Bonds-Bishop was arrested, he allegedly told officers that he was unaware the vehicle was stolen and had purchased it a week prior for $500. He did not reside at the address of where he was parked in the driveway.

    Bonds-Bishop is charged with felony theft between $1,000 and $25,000.

    St. Mary’s woman facing fraud charges

    On April 23, a court summons was issued for a 43-year-old Mechanicsville woman who is the subject of investigations by the Maryland State Police Criminal Investigation Division and the National Insurance Crime Bureau.

    According to court papers filed by Trooper E.P. Ruggles of the state police, John Bettinger contacted the bureau regarding two investigations of Jorita Licelle Chew.

    In the charging papers, Ruggles outlined the allegations that Chew filed bogus claims to different insurance companies in November 2022 for damages she said were done to her home by a malfunctioning clothes washer and injuries reportedly sustained in a January 2023 motor vehicle crash.

    Chew has been charged with two felony counts of false/misleading information fraud. A district court hearing on the charges is scheduled for June 7.

    Virginia fugitive nabbed in St. Mary’s

    On April 26, Deputy Devin Absher of the St. Mary’s sheriff’s office arrested a 43-year-old California man on a charge of being a fugitive from justice in Virginia.

    According to court documents, Christopher Hester is wanted in King George,Va., for charges of intent to commit larceny by entering a building at night.

    Hester was denied bail Monday by district court Judge James Tanavage. A district court hearing on the fugitive charge in St. Mary’s is scheduled for May 28.

    Great Mills woman charged in stabbing

    On April 24, Deputy Richard Stillwell of the St. Mary’s sheriff’s office was dispatched to a Great Mills residence for the report of an assault. A man at the home had sustained a puncture wound to his chest during a domestic argument.

    A woman at the residence, identified as Vivian M.A. Anthes, 23, of Great Mills, had allegedly stabbed the man during the argument.

    “Both parties displayed injuries,” Stillwell wrote in court papers.

    Anthes had sustained a hand laceration. Stillwell said through investigation he learned the wound was apparently self-inflicted.

    Anthes was arrested and charged with first-degree assault and second-degree assault.

    On April 25, district court Judge Karen Christy Holt Chesser ordered Anthes released on her own recognizance. A district court hearing on the charges is scheduled for May 23.

    Lusby woman charged with assaults

    On April 23, Deputy Dara Baxter of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office was sent to Chesapeake Ranch Estates in Lusby for the report of assaults near Seahorse Beach.

    Baxter learned a female pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on Clubhouse Drive. A woman told the deputy that the alleged driver of the vehicle was Jaida Marie Starks, 20, of Lusby. Starks’ accuser said the defendant had been harassing her “for months over a boy,” Baxter wrote in charging papers.

    Starks, said her accuser, had challenged her to a fight on the beach. She arrived at the beach with another woman, who was then allegedly struck by the vehicle Starks was driving.

    The injured woman was taken by ambulance to CalvertHealth Medical Center.

    Starks was arrested and charged with two counts each of first-degree assault, second-degree assault and affray. Starks was issued several traffic citations for failing to stop at the scene of an accident, reckless driving, negligent driving and speeding.

    A warrant for Starks’ arrest was served April 26. According to court document, Starks is being held without bond. A district court hearing on the charges she is facing is scheduled for May 24.

    Pennsylvania fugitive nabbed in Calvert

    On Feb. 23, a 28-year-old Lusby woman was arrested in Calvert County on a fugitive warrant from authorities in Norristown, Pa.

    According to court documents, Amber Nicole Malinowski is wanted in Pennsylvania on charges of forgery, identification theft, drug possession and theft by deception.

    Court records show Malinowski was a Delaware resident in 2021 when the alleged crimes occurred. Malinowski, Norristown authorities stated, failed to appear in court.

    Malinowski, who was apprehended by Trooper Kevin Bauer of the Maryland State Police Prince Frederick Barrack, is being held without bond.

    Court records show she has voluntarily waived extradition to Pennsylvania. A district court hearing on Malinowski’s fugitive charge is scheduled for May 23.

    Chesapeake Beach man facing assault charges

    On April 25, Deputy Samuel Grierson of the Calvert sheriff’s office was dispatched to a location in Chesapeake Beach where a fight was allegedly taking place. A man and a woman claimed they were assaulted.

    A man leaving the scene of the reported fight refused to answer the deputy’s questions about the alleged incident.

    Grierson reported in court documents that the man, identified as Nathan Oliver White, 43, of Chesapeake Beach, was uncooperative and subsequently arrested and subdued by other officers.

    White’s male accuser told the deputy that White struck him on the head with a cognac bottle and threatened both he and a woman acquainted with both men with a switchblade knife. The shattered bottle was found but Grierson wrote in charging papers that deputies were unable to locate a knife.

    White was taken to CalvertHealth Medical Center, released and then transported to the detention center.

    White was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, failure to obey a lawful order, resisting arrest and obstructing, and hindering.

    Later that day, he was released after posting $5,000 bond. A district court hearing on the charges White is facing is scheduled for May 24.

    Unsolved vessel and trailer theft

    On April 20, Deputy Todd Fleenor responded to the intersection of Route 2/4 and HG Trueman Road in Lusby for the report of a theft. Contact was made with the complainant who advised that a gray 2000 aluminum Bass Tracker jet boat attached to a black trailer with Virginia registration had been stolen.

    The complainant left the boat and trailer on the side of the road after experiencing mechanical problems. When the complainant returned the following morning, the boat and trailer were missing. The estimated value of the stolen property is $16,000.

    Unsolved theft at park and ride

    On April 18 at 4:38 p.m., Deputy Savannah Huy responded to the Sunderland park and ride located on Route 2 for the report of a theft from a vehicle. Investigation revealed sometime between 4:20 and 6 a.m. someone removed the tires and rims from a grey 2023 Toyota Camry. The rims are described as silver in color with the Toyota logo in the center. The tires had ‘KINERGY’ printed on the side of them.

    Due to the vehicle being left lying on the ground, the vehicle’s undercarriage was damaged. The estimated value of stolen property is $1,500. The estimated value of damaged property is over $1,000.
