ROANOKE, Va. – The 40th annual Scott Robertson Memorial Golf Tournament started Friday under cloudy, dreary conditions at Roanoke Country Club. In the boys 15-18 age group, three-time state champion and Virginia Tech commit Ryan Slonaker carded a 75, +4 in the first round. He collected two bogey’s in his first four holes but made up for it with a pair of birdies on the back nine.

Grocery prices drop for first time in a year, but shoppers not seeing relief at register
ROANOKE, Va. – Nowadays, a trip to the grocery store can cost hundreds and you’re likely leaving with less. For the first time in a year, inflation data shows that grocery prices have dropped. According to the latest Consumer Index Report, grocery prices fell by 0.2 percent from March to April. The price of meats, poultry, fish, eggs, fruits, and vegetables all dropped in April. The price of cereals, bakery products and dairy increased.
Feds Indict Three In Newark HS, Other Swatting Incidents
A federal grand jury returned a superseding indictment on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 which was unsealed earlier today, charging Owen Jarboe, age 18, of Hagerstown, Maryland, Evan Strauss, age 26, of Moneta, Virginia, and Brayden Grace, age 18, of Columbus, Ohio, with conspiracy, cyberstalking, interstate threatening communications, and threats to damage or destroy by means of fire and explosives.
SML Democrats celebrate its military veterans members
On May 13th, the Smith Mountain Lake Democrats held a reception to celebrate their members who are military veterans. Veterans member recounted experiences, challenges and achievements while serving in the Army, Navy, and Marines in Vietnam through September 11th. Many were posted overseas and in war zones. Their duties varied from submarine hunter, radar operator, war crimes investigator, cook, meteorologist, transportation specialist, and chemical warfare officer to chaplain.
