High Desert Sports Roundup: Dani Jackman slugs 60th career home run, ties CIF-SS record

Dani Jackman tied the CIF-Southern Section record of 60 career home runs as she led the University Prep softball team to a 23-9 victory over Big Bear on Friday afternoon.

Jackman is now up to 16 home runs on the season, and has hit one in five straight games, including three against Boron on March 25.

Her next home run will break the mark set by Tannon Snow, of Chino Hills, in 2015.

Jackman’s 60th career home run came in the fourth inning.

University Prep jumped to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, and then Big Bear scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning.

The Bears took a 6-5 lead in the second inning before University Prep exploded for eight runs in the top of the third inning, and then five in both the fourth and fifth innings.

Jackman ended 5 for 5 with two doubles, seven RBIs and two runs.

Vic Patino went 3 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs; Carsyn Leon went 3 for 5 with four RBIs and a stolen base; Briseis Vargas went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and a run; Paityn Zimmerman went 2 for 3 with a home run, three RBIs, four runs and a stolen base; and Jayleen Lopez went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs.

The Jaguars are back in action Tuesday afternoon at home against Canyon Springs, and then have two Cross Valley League games against Excelsior to close out the week.

Prep Baseball

Apple Valley High School 5, Hesperia High School 3

At Hesperia, the Sun Devils improved to 7-3 in Mojave River League action with a victory over the Scorpions on Friday afternoon.

Ryan Martinez went 2 for 4 with a run, and also picked up the win on the mound. Martinez tossed 5 ⅓ innings, struck out seven batters and allowed three runs on five hits.

Beau Lloyd closed out the game to record the save. Isaiah Reveron went 2 for 4 with a RBI and a run.

For Hesperia, Kaleb Watson went 2 for 3 with a RBI. He also pitched three scoreless innings and struck out five batters.

On Thursday, Apple Valley beat Hesperia 17-2. Phoenix Matsumoto went 4 for 4 with three RBIs, four runs and a stolen base; Lloyd went 4 for 5 with two home runs, seven RBIs and three runs; Martinez went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, two runs and a stolen base; and Noah Celie went 2 for 4 with three RBIs

Sultana High School 19, Serrano High School 2

At Phelan, Brayden Booth drove in six runs to lead the Sultans past the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Booth ended 3 for 4 with a home run and three runs.

Alex Gamez went 4 for 5 with two RBIs, four runs and three stolen bases; Isac Gamez went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and a run; Dominic Williams went 3 for 5 with two RBIs and a run; and LJ Borrego went 1 for 4 with a RBI, four runs and two stolen bases.

For Serrano, Andrew Lechuga went 2 for 2 with two walks and a run; and Eric Sotelo and Austin Bimber went 2 for 3.

Granite Hills High School 3, Victor Valley High School 0

At Apple Valley, Caden Wharton tossed a one-hitter to lead the Cougars past the Jackrabbits on Thursday afternoon.

Wharton allowed a single in the fourth inning, and struck out three batters. At the plate, he went 3 for 3 with two RBIs and a stolen base.

Jordan Dalton went 3 for 3 with two runs.

Carlson continues to dominate in CVL action

At Helendale, Nate Carlson led all shooters with a 31 on the north course at Silver Lakes Country Club on Thursday afternoon.

He led the way as ACE shot 206 as a team in the Cross Valley League match. His teammates Bryce Johnson and Cody Grounds rounded out the top three scores.

At Apple Valley, the Sun Devils broke a 26-year old school record by shooting a combined 181 at Apple Valley Golf Course on Thursday afternoon.

The previous record was a team score of 182, set in 1998.

Brody Earnest also broke the school record as he carded a score of 31, to be four under par. The previous record was three-under par, set in 1988.

Teammates Carson Hamilton and Sherman Cline followed behind with scores of 35.

The Sun Devils are 6-0 in MRL action, and will be back in action Wednesday afternoon against Hesperia, in what figures to determine the league title race.

At Oak Hills, Bethany Morrison had a big day at the plate to lead the Sun Devils in an upset over the Bulldogs on Friday afternoon.

Morrison smacked a three-run home run in a five-run fifth inning, and went 3 for 4 with four RBIs and two runs.

Hailey Macias went 2 for 5 with two runs, and Marley Fic went 2 for 4.

For Oak Hills, Maddie Romo struck out 13 batters over seven innings. Romo was one of three Oak Hills players to hit a home run. She went 2 for 4 with a home run, three RBIs and a run.

Daylin Hoenisch went 2 for 4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs; Amaya Sigala went 2 for 4 with a home run, a RBI and a run; Destinee Estrada went 3 for 3 with a run; and Rylie Gresham-Center went 2 for 4 with a RBI and a run.

For Hesperia, Arnette Gonzales went 2 for 3 with two runs and a stolen base, and Lola Sartoresi went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run.

Academy for Academic Excellence 12, Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy 1

At Apple Valley, Haylee Berg tallied three hits to help lead the Knights to a mercy-rule victory over the Cougars on Friday afternoon.

Berg went 3 for 3 with a home run, two RBIs and a stolen base.

Gracie Farber went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, two runs and a stolen base; Emily Garcia went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs; Aiden Carlson went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run; and Paityn Thibodeaux went 1 for 3 with a RBI and two runs.

Silverado High School 17, Adelanto High School 16

At Victorville, the Hawks scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat the Saints on Thursday afternoon.

Silverado also scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game 15-15.

Haylee Stanislawski led the charge for the Hawks going 4 for 4 with two home runs, four RBIs and five runs; Alex Valdez went 4 for 6 with four runs; Valerie Beltran went 3 for 6 with two RBIs, a run and a stolen base; Janaeh Silva went 4 for 7 with four RBIs; and Alexis Rodriguez went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, two runs and two stolen bases.

For Adelanto, Monica Flores went 2 for 4 with two runs and two stolen bases; Taylor Fullwood went 2 for 6 with two RBIs, three runs and two stolen bases; Alyah Vidana went 2 for 6 with three RBIs; and Ce’onie Turner went 1 for 4 with a RBI, four runs and two stolen bases.

Silverado High School 12, Academy for Academic Excellence 6

At Victorville, the Hawks improved to 12-1 in Desert Sky League action with a victory over the Knights on Thursday afternoon.

Silverado had sweeps in singles action from Christian Sauceda and Ricardo Lemuz, along with the doubles team of David Ayala and Andrew Solis.

At Oak Hills, the Bulldogs clinched the Mojave River League title with a victory over the Burros on Thursday afternoon.

Oak Hills got sweeps in doubles action from the teams of Herman Velasco and David Gonzalez, and also Hayden Christensen and Angel Guzman.

The Bulldogs are unbeaten on the season at 13-0 and currently the No. 1 ranked team in the latest CIF-Southern Section Division 6 coaches poll.
