    Fishing day turned deadly in Vernon, Washington County Sheriff says

    WASHINGTON COUNTY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – On Saturday, one man died after being shot by his fishing partner in Vernon.

    Around 2:40 p.m., Washington County officials received a 911 call about an altercation at the Diamond Head Fish Camp on Moss Hill Road in Vernon.

    Authorities said the caller stated the altercation was between her husband and another individual.

    According to a news release, all parties were at the dock when deputies arrived. Investigators said they were informed that all three men had been on the lake fishing and drinking alcohol most of the day.

    Deputies said one of the men became aggressive and threatened to kill the other on the dock.

    The two men got physical, one pulled out a gun and shot the other. The victim died and landed in the water, deputies said.

    Washington County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team recovered the body, officials wrote.

    The State Attorney’s Office, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and the Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating this case.

    At this time officials said no charges have been filed.
