County Commission Pumps Brakes On Snapps Ferry Speed Limit Change

The Greene County Commission voted against decreasing the speed limit on a section of Snapps Ferry Road on Monday night. The resolution would have decreased the speed limit on the road from 55 miles per hour to 45 miles per hour from the city limits of Greeneville, where the speed limit is 35 miles per hour, to Williams Springs Road near Fairview Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The remainder of the road would have remained 55 miles per hour.

A pair of problems has slowed road work on Interstate 26 through Unicoi County. While a sinkhole opened up on the eastbound side of traffic, a separate issue has started to causing problems as groundwater is mixing with fine sediment, causing issues for road crews. — A pair of problems have slowed work being done to Interstate 26. A sinkhole developed heading eastbound by mile marker 27.8 in Unicoi County sometime in the early morning hours of Tuesday, while TDOT also acknowledge a a current issue of groundwater mixing with fine sediments at some locations on the travel lanes and shoulders of I-26 where current road construction is taking place.

UNICOI COUNTY, Tenn. (WCYB) — A sinkhole has closed a lane of Interstate 26 eastbound in Unicoi County, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
