Police Blotter: May 10, 2024
At 9:47 a.m., Claremont Police Department officers responded to the Metrolink parking lot in the 200 block of W. First Street regarding an encampment. Upon arrival, officers questioned Manuel Gonzales, 41, of Fontana, and Pomona resident Sierra Perry, 38. A records check of Gonzales revealed he had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant out of San Bernadino County, and a search allegedly turned up narcotics and a methamphetamine pipe. While officers spoke with Perry, a meth pipe allegedly fell out of her pant pocket. The duo was subsequently arrested, Gonzales for the warrant and for misdemeanors possession of a controlled substance and possession of unlawful paraphernalia, and Perry for misdemeanor possession of unlawful paraphernalia. They were taken to CPD jail for booking and later released with citations to appear in court.

A woman who was an inmate at West Valley Detention Center has died, and authorities are conducting an investigation, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. El Roble’s String Orchestra and Wind Ensemble earn highest honors
Musicians from El Roble Intermediate School earned the highest honors at the May 11 Trills and Thrills music festival at Buena Park High School. El Roble’s String Orchestra and Wind Ensemble received the highest rating of superior. The Concert Band (made up of all 7th grade students) received the second highest rating of excellent.
CUSD names two new principals, other housekeeping items pass
The Claremont Unified School District’s Board of Education unanimously approved two new principals and one assistant principal during its May 2 meeting. Ryan Easton takes over as Claremont High School’s assistant principal, student services, following the March 7 reassignment of Andrea Deligio as San Antonio High School principal. Easton, one of 54 applicants, will finish out the school year as a CHS social science teacher before the switch.
Cold Camp, Lytle Creek, CA
This is a single "yellow post" campsite located along the creek side of Lytle Creek Road right at the fork with Cold Water Canyon. The campsite is long enough for full sized motorhomes and fifth-wheel trailers to get into, albeit with some skill backing into the 90-degree turn from the road.

Sheridan Lambrook, a senior journalism major with a concentration in visual journalism, is photography editor and a staff writer for the Campus Times. Abelina J. Nuñez, senior journalism major, is a photography editor for Campus Times and staff photographer for La Verne Magazine. She previously served as LV Life editor, arts editor social media editor and staff writer. In Fall 2023, Nuñez was La Verne Magazine's editor-in-chief and was previously a staff writer as well.
