The Maximum Enforcement Period began last night at 6 p.m. and runs until Monday, May 27th, at midnight. One key violation that officers will be watching for is speeding, as it is one of the most common factors in collisions. Two Flown From Highway 108 Solo Vehicle Crash In Mi-Wuk Village
Mi-Wuk Village, CA – A Mi-Wuk man and woman were flown from the scene of a solo vehicle crash last night on Highway 108 that resulted in the driver being arrested for DUI. The collision happened around 6:20 p.m. west of Koinonia Court, near the U.S. Forest Service-Stanislaus National Forest ranger station in Mi-Wuk Village. CHP spokesperson Officer Steve Machado reports that 59-year-old Christopher Smith was driving a 2015 Jeep Cherokee eastbound on the highway, west of Koinonia Court. Also in the passenger seat was 65-year-old Linda Bell.

Sonora, CA — A multi-million-dollar economic boost is on its way to the Eastern Sierra region, which includes four Mother Lode counties. The newly-formed Sierra Jobs First initiative is part of a statewide California Jobs First investment in job creation, industrial strategy, and economic development initiatives to create a more climate-resilient and equitable economy. The initiative spans seven counties: Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, Inyo, Mariposa, Mono, and Tuolumne.
Pair Of Weekend Fires
Angels Camp, CA — There were a couple of fires of note in the region as temperatures are rising this season. There was a 20 by 20 ft. vegetation fire near the south entrance of the Calaveras County Fairgrounds in Angels Camp on Sunday afternoon shortly before one o’clock. The forward progress was quickly stopped. The cause was not immediately released.

IONE — Two beggars standing next to an expensive car in Amador County claimed they were rich but lost their wallets.The Ione Police Department said a concerned citizen reported the beggars at Highway 124 and Brickyard Road on May 13.Authorities say the duo offered up gold items for gas money, but the rings and chains were fake.Investigators identified the two as Romanian nationals and warn this scam has been reported nationwide.
