Cody and Kilgore Fire Departments Requested to Assist Forest Service With Prescribed Burn
On Sunday, April 21, The US Forest Service carried out a prescribed burn south of Nenzel in the McKelvie National Forest land. However, the winds started blowing slightly higher and humidity slightly lower than what was anticipated. When the burn began to surpass the designated fire lines, the USFS officials sent a mutual aid request to Cody and Kilgore Fire Departments to help keep the fire contained. According to Kilgore fire chief Todd Rothleutner, very little area burned beyond the prescribed perimeter, but the trucks from Kilgore and Cody did remain on scene for quite some time as a precaution.

Valentine High School Prom Royalty
Preston Stoeger and Kinsey Buechle were crowned Prom King and Queen at Valentine High School Saturday evening. Prom theme was “out of this world”. Students enjoyed a banquet at the Peppermill, followed by promenade, crowning and dance at the high school and post prom hosted by the parents at the middle school. The next big event should be graduation for Valentine on May 11th.

KVSH March Madness Contest Winners
Kent Lopez of Valentine won the KVSH March Madness basketball bracket contest decided earlier this week. Kent missed only 17 games in the entire bracket and correctly picked UConn to win the championship. He will receive the $250 shopping certificate at Outback Screen Printing and Embroidery in Valentine. Taking second place in the contest was DeeJaye Fowler who missed 18 games. DeeJaye will receive $100 in Chamber Bucks from KVSH Radio and our sponsors. Taking 3rd place was Carol Leonard who missed 19 games. Carol will receive $50 in Chamber Bucks. There was a four way tie for 4th place, which is just out of the money. Monty Krueger, Court Fowler, Steve Isom and Bernie Eklund all had 21 wrong.
