Freebirds World Burrito Coming to Bastrop
Freebirds World Burrito is preparing to open at 747 State Highway 71 in Bastrop, according to a project filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The filing estimates $90,000 for the interior build-out of a 2,200-square-foot space. Work is scheduled to begin November 23, 2026, and finish April 19, 2027. RTM Design LLC is listed as the design firm for the renovation.

Fire-Grilled Mexican Seafood Is Coming to South Austin
A new Mexican seafood restaurant, Mi Vecino, is opening in Circle C, courtesy of chef Amir Hajimaleki and his brother Ali Hajimaleki of Roya Hospitality Group. It’s slated to open between now and early 2027, per a release. The restaurant, Mi Vecino, will open at 5701 West Slaughter Lane, replacing another of the group’s restaurants, Keeper’s Coastal Kitchen, which closed Saturday, October 24.

These Blanco Barrels Make Wine and Whiskey Even More Texan
The aroma hits me as I step into the 12,000-square-foot warehouse, where pipes snake overhead and machines crowd the floor. The air is warm and thick with the scent of toasted bread, faintly sweet and spiced. A goliath hydraulic press jolts the warehouse to life as it forces steamed staves—narrow strips of wood that form a barrel’s curved edges—into place inside large metal rings. Inside Blanco’s Standard Cooperage, steel machinery rumbles and thumps as coopers finish what will become some of the state’s first barrels made from Texas white oak, also known as Quercus alba.
