Tacoma Humane waives adoption fees after accepting 500 pets in 2 weeks
TACOMA, Wash. — Anyone in Pierce County or the surrounding western Washington area who is looking to adopt a new pet got some good news Wednesday. The Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County announced that it is waiving adoption fees for adult dogs, adult cats and all critters through Sunday, June 16, due to kennel capacity.
Narrows Bridge lanes will be closed over Father’s Day weekend
Two lanes of the westbound Tacoma Narrows Bridge will close for repairs over Father’s Day weekend, the Washington State Department of Transportation announced Monday. The two right lanes of the 1950-built bridge will close at 4 a.m. Saturday, June 15 and reopen at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 16. The ramp from Jackson Avenue in Tacoma to westbound Highway 16 also will close.
Harbor Happenings | Future of Peninsula Gardens to be discussed
The community can weigh in on future uses for the old Peninsula Gardens site Wednesday, June 12, at a meeting sponsored by PenMet Parks. For many years, Peninsula Gardens was one of the area’s most popular plant nurseries. When the nursery closed, the site hosted a weekly farmers market. Peninsula Metropolitan Parks District purchased the property when the farmers market moved to downtown Gig Harbor.
