Utility Honored for Storm Response
(Fort Wayne, IN) - Indiana Michigan Power has been recognized for its response in restoring power after a June storm. The company has received the Edison Electric Institute's Emergency Recovery Award, a very coveted honor in the industry. The award recognizes the dedication of I&M employees, contractors and crews from neighboring power companies who worked tirelessly to restore power following multiple rounds of severe weather on June 11 and 13.

A few showers Wednesday, But Friday Steals the Show
Humidity makes a comeback Wednesday as a cold front moves through, bringing a few light, hit-and-miss showers, though most of Michiana stays dry. Thursday turns much more comfortable as humidity drops behind the front, setting up a gorgeous Friday with sunshine, highs near 80°, and no rain in sight, the best weather day of the week. The weekend stays mostly quiet with a slight shower chance Saturday, including a small chance for a stray shower during the Notre Dame vs. Rice game at Notre Dame Stadium (kickoff 3:30 p.m. ET on WNDU). Looking ahead, trends point toward a cooler, quieter pattern developing by mid-September.

Derecho devastates Northwest Indiana, Valpo campus
On Aug. 11, Northwest Indiana experienced a catastrophic storm that caused winds over 100 mph for the Porter County region. Trees were uprooted, power lines were down and about 300,000 Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) customers were without power for several days. For Valparaiso University, the storm caused a power outage for multiple days and numerous buildings experienced damage.

Causes and effects of extremely active severe weather year
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Almost every corner of Michiana has been impacted by severe weather this year, though hopefully we see a slowdown through the month of September. “We've issued 820 of the local storm reports. So, it, is, it has been busy. That is the highest ever that we have right now. The next closest was back, looks like 580 reports. That was back in 2010.”

People Can Apply for Storm Damage Relief
(La Porte County, IN) - La Porte County residents with damage from last month’s storm can apply for financial assistance. Today, officials with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Indiana Department of Homeland Security are at Krueger Memorial Hall at 801 Liberty Trail until 3 p.m. for people to apply for storm relief.
