Crusaders lose a wild one, as Ukiah Wildcats rally late
By Ray Hamill — There was no shortage of big plays — nor talking points — at Crusader Field on Saturday, as St. Bernard’s suffered its first loss of the season. Hosting Ukiah in a wild back-and-forth game, the Crusaders rallied from an early 20-point deficit to take an eight-point lead in the second half, but then gave up 22 unanswered points and lost 49-35.

Ukiah Skate Park: Soul Jam 2 Surfing Asphalt event planned
Body Builders, Crossroads Church and the City of Ukiah presents Soul Jam 2 Surfing Asphalt on Saturday, Oct. 7 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Ukiah Skate Park. There will be a Pro Skate exhibition by Embassador Skateboards of Sacramento. Also at the event will be music and food. Prizes will be for local best trick competition. This is a completely free event.
Golf Notes: Annual Home and Home Golf Tournament
The annual Home and Home Golf Tournament between the Little River Men’s Club and the Ukiah Men’s Club got off to a running start last Sunday September 24th. Twenty-six Ukiah players mounted up and made the journey to the coast to square off against an equal amount of Little River players. The participants are matched up against each other according to handicaps. In every match there is a potential to win 3 points for your team or lose three points to your opponent or you each can win 1 1/2 or 2 and 1 or 2 1/2 and1/2. There are three points available. At rounds end the points are totaled for each team.
A goal in sight
Youth football kicked off its season this past weekend. Local teams around the NorCal area including, Petaluma, Santa Rosa, Windsor, Ukiah, San Marin, Napa, and Rohnert Park, will play games through November in age groups from 8U through 14U. Rohnert Park Warrior receiver Brek Chang (#28), drags a defender into the endzone to score a TD in last Sunday’s game. The 10U Rohnert Park Warriors defeated the 10U Petaluma Panthers by a score of 25-0.
Local family revives Ukiah Triathlon
Turns out that putting on the Ukiah Triathlon is even more exhausting than competing in it. “I’ve done this race twice, but I’m more worn out today than I ever was after running it,” said John Strangio with a laugh Sunday afternoon after his first time hosting the event, which had been on hiatus for four years.
