Photo: Room One, phase two
Photo by Marcy Stamper The building that housed Room One – and provided services to thousands of clients – for 16 years has been demolished to make room for a new facility. The new structure, which will have the same footprint as the new Room One building completed last year, will be constructed on the existing lot, with room for a courtyard between the buildings. It will contain office space, a kitchen, and room for client services, plus a garage for the organization’s popular baby-supply exchange. Materials from the old headquarters were put to good use – people picked up everything from cabinetry to the HVAC system to plumbing and plywood. Even the old structure, which has been moved to a new lot, will be refurbished as local housing. The site will be cleared this week to launch construction on phase 2 of the Room One campus. The new building is expected to be completed in about two years.
