Bullfrogs lose heartbreaking match to Wildcats by 1 stroke
At the conclusion of nine holes of golf, Bret Harte and Sonora tallied up the final totals. After the math was done a couple of times, it was discovered that both teams shot an identical 217. The tie breaker went to the lowest score of the fifth golfer, which went in favor of the Wildcats by one stroke.
Annual softball tournament raises funds for cancer patients
The annual, coed cancer support softball tournament at Copello Park in Angels Camp once again drew many players and supporters. This 12-team tournament, which was held on Saturday, Sept. 16, is presented by the Calaveras Cancer Support Group, which is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary. The tournament, which also began 25 years ago, has raised an estimated total of $360,000 since its inception.
Summerville Bears Run Over Modesto Christian Crusaders
The Summerville Bears visited Modesto Christian last night knowing two things: they had to do a good job on defense against an outstanding passing team, and the line had to win the battle of the trenches in order to control the tempo of the game and give the offense scoring opportunities. As the game came to an end, it was clear that the Bears had accomplished both tasks as they celebrated a 49-to-12 victory.

Calaveras Jr. Red Hawks split 4 games with Jr. Wildcats
The Calaveras Jr. Red Hawks split four games with the Sonora Wildcats on Sept. 23 at Dunlavy Field in Sonora. Calaveras collected wins in the junior novice and novice games. In the junior novice game, Calaveras beat Sonora 24-6. Jack Ospital had nine carries for 84 yards and two touchdowns; Levi Lim had eight carries for 89 yards and one touchdown; and Brent Fuson found the end zone once. Defensively, Trace Byker had two tackles and one sack; Lim had one tackle and one fumble; Noel Leon had one forced fumble and one tackle; and Lucas Mellinger had five tackles and one sack.
Red Hawks drop home match to Wildcats
The Calaveras High School girls’ golf team had a great day out on the links, but just didn’t have the end result they wanted. The Red Hawks shot their home season low, yet were unable to capture the victory. Calaveras lost to the Sonora Wildcats 218-235 on Tuesday afternoon at La Contenta Golf Club in Valley Springs. Calaveras’ previous low score while playing at La Contenta was 242.

Sonora Completes a Perfect Road Trip And Calaveras Gets First Win
The Sonora Wildcats finished off a perfect three-game road trip on Friday night with a 42-13 win over the host Livingston Wolves. The game started off all Wildcats. After scoring on their opening drive, the Sonora defense forced a fumble on the next play from scrimmage and recovered the ball in Livingston territory. A few plays later, quarterback Adam Curnow ran an option keeper in for the touchdown. After the ensuing kickoff, the Wildcat defense notched their second takeaway when defensive back Jonathan Curran picked off a deep pass attempt from the Wolves near midfield. Bryce Nicholson finished off the Sonora drive with his second touchdown of the night, giving the Wildcats an early 21-0 lead. However, Livingston would not go away and put together a solid drive for a touchdown to make the score 21-6 after one quarter.
