NORTHPORT, Ala. ( WIAT ) — If you’ve been to Lake Tuscaloosa recently to go boating or swimming, you may have noticed new businesses and housing developments that are under construction.

The Southern Ale House Dockside restaurant is expected to open in August. Construction workers are nearly finished building the facility located off Highway 43.

Owner Justin Holt says he picked the location to give boaters a place to eat and have a beautiful view of the lake.

“We are very excited to put a restaurant on the lake. [It’s] something this city has needed for a very long time and it should be lots of fun,” Holt said. “It’s something that people want and they need.”

The Captain’s Club and Marina Market, located near the Northriver Yacht Club, is already open for business and sells clothing, food, drinks and wine.

Its developer is also building a restaurant that will open next summer. Additonally, work is being done on a new housing development called the Hill House Condominiums.

“We have anything you need to make your day on the lake more enjoyable on the water without having to leave,” Captain’s Club general manager Kory Taylor said. “We have 18 fantastic condos that will overlook Lake Tuscaloosa, a boat club and rental boats. We just do a little bit of everything.”

Jimmy Hart says the new growth on Lake Tuscaloosa is good for tourism and the economy. He also hopes they’ll motivate more businesses to set up shop nearby.

“Seeing these developments take place The Captain’s Club and Southern Ale House and other projects that are on deck, that’s just going to increase the opportunity people have to get out on the water and enjoy the space,” Hart said.
