TULSA, Okla. — A north Tulsa couple is sleeping in their car after losing everything in a house fire on April 18.

“We’re gonna die this is our day. I don’t wanna die, not yet,” said Anna Baxter, a north Tulsa woman.

Anna said that’s what was going through her mind when her house went up in flames. Anna, her husband and their two dogs were all inside when the fire started, and all made it out okay.

“I’m very thankful that we’re here. This is the only family we have is each other,” said Anna.

In the early morning on April 18, the Tulsa Fire department was called to Anna’s house.

“I was painting my son’s room as a surprise for him and I got tired and sat down on the couch and I dropped my cigarette and it just went up in smoke,” said Anna.

“I woke him up and he tried to pull the couch out and that’s when it took off everywhere,” said Anna.

The fire department said the fire was put out quickly, but Anna said the damage was already done.

“We lost everything, what wasn’t burned is smoke damaged you can’t use it. All of our food, everything is gone,” said Anna.

Since that day they’ve been sleeping in their truck outside of their home, while trying to clear out any remaining belongings.

“It’s a nightmare we’re lost. I don’t know where to go. I feel good sleeping here because this is home, it’s all we know,” said Anna.

Anna said they don’t have anywhere to go and the landlord wants them out of the house. She said they need help from the community.

They have a go fund me set up and gave an email if you want to help or get in contact with them.
