Man charged in 2022 murder sentenced to life in prison without parole

A man charged with the 2022 murder of 38-year-old Ashley Sneed was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Charles Colbert was in court Tuesday morning where he entered a plea of guilty and waived his right to a jury.

The court accepted his plea and found him guilty. He will serve life without parole under the custody and control of the Department of Corrections.

In a press release from the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office, Assistant District Attorney Dalinda Jeffers, who prosecuted the case along with Assistant District Attorney Dalinda John Tjeerdsma, commented on the case.

“Ashley Sneed was the victim of Charles Colbert’s domestic violence for many years,” Jeffers said. “Her children were terrorized by his explosive rage. However, with help from family and friends, Ashley found the strength to climb out of that abyss and start a new and productive life away from him, free of his brutality, at least for a short while. I’m glad she got to feel the sun on her face and the wind in her hair before Colbert murdered her for defying him, firing 13 gunshots into her, most if not all of them as she laid on her laundry room floor. Justice was done today when the judge gave him a sentence of life without parole.”

Charles Colbert was charged with Ashley Sneed's murder and has been on the run since May 7. Watkins says the pair were arguing over child care when Sneed was shot in a home near Admiral and 97th East Ave. There were multiple children at the home at the time of the shooting.

More than two weeks since an arrest warrant was issued, Tulsa police say a man charged with murdering his child's mother, was picked up in Dallas.

Lt. Brandon Watkins, head of homicide at the Tulsa Police Department, confirmed he was picked up in Texas.

Colbert has now been booked into David L. Moss in Tulsa.
