REEDSVILLE — When teams see the ball really well, it tends to show up on the scoreboard.

Despite jumping out to a quick 4-0 lead, the Trimble softball team fell victim to an offensive explosion after Eastern put together 15 runs on 17 hits in a game where their offense couldn’t be stopped.

Trimble (3-8) struggled at the plate, scoring six runs but only able to accrue four hits in the outing. Charlie Shafer finished with half the Tomcats’ hits with her 2-4 day, scoring one of Trimble’s six runs. Joelle Richards added a hit and three RBIs, while Brandis Bickley added an RBI and scored a run of her own. Kennedy Kittle, Mikayla Dane, Madison Mcwilliams and Alyvia Portier all also scored for the Tomcats.

Richards got the ball in the circle for Trimble, struggling in her four innings as she allowed nine earned runs on 12 hits. She struck out just one batter. Olivia Kasler then came in for two innings of relief, allowing two earned runs on five hits while also walking an Eagle batter.

On the opposite end, Eastern dominated at the dish as they quadrupled Trimble’s number of hits with 17 of their own. Hope Reed, Ashlynn Thomas and Emma Putman all finished with three hits apiece, with Putnam knocking in four RBIs and scoring two runs. Reed and Thomas each scored two runs apiece, while Reed notched two RBIs alongside Thomas’ one. Rylie White, Natalie Lantz and Emily Smith all added two hit outings, with the four combining for eight runs scored. Rylie White added two RBIs, with Lantz finishing with one.

Rylie White got the start, but threw just one and one thirds innings as she gave up four runs on just a single hit and five walks. Thomas then came in for four and two thirds innings of relief, giving up just two runs on three hits while striking out eight Tomcat batters.

After a scoreless first inning, Trimble put together a four-run inning in the top of the second. A bases-loaded hit by pitch scored the first, before a three-run double from Richards cleared the bases to give Trimble an early 4-0 lead.

Eastern quickly responded with six runs in the following inning, taking a lead that they would never relinquish. White stole home to get the Eagles on the board, before an RBI triple from Reed tacked on another. Thomas put another on the board with a one-run single, before Putnam blasted a two-run triple to right. Eastern scored their final run on a groundout, with Trimble temporarily able to stop the bleeding.

It didn’t last for very long, with the Eagles tacking on three more in the fourth. Reed got another RBI extra base hit with a double, before scoring herself after a two-run homer to center from White to make it 9-4.

Trimble got two back in the top of the firth after an RBI double from Bickley and a groundout from Kittle, getting within three runs and a chance at a potential comeback.

Eastern felt the pressure and responded with six runs over the next two innings, beginning with an RBI double from Lantz before she later scored on an error to make it 11-6.

Another two Tomcat errors and a two-run homer from Putnam put four more on the board for Eastern to make it 15-6 before the game was called after just six innings of play.
