AdvanSix eyes federal grant for Hopewell expansion
AdvanSix's Hopewell polymer plant has been selected for a proposed $47.4 million U.S. Department of Agriculture grant to help fund a $98.1 million project to expand ammonia production used in fertilizer manufacturing, the company announced Thursday , Oct. 29 . The project, known as Project CENTURY, would modernize the facility and increase annual ammonia production by about 84,000 tons. Federal officials say the investment is aimed at strengthening domestic fertilizer supplies and reducing reliance on foreign sources. The project is designed to strengthen the company’s integrated ammonia manufacturing platform while increasing the availability of domestically produced nitrogen-based fertilizers for American farmers. The announcement is just that, an announcement. It means AdvanSix is in the running to get the grant, not a guarantee. But in a company statenent, the president and chief executive officer sounded optimistic about the chances. “For nearly a century, our teammates in Hopewell have proudly manufactured essential products here in America, including the nutrients farmers depend on to grow the food that feeds our families and communities,” Erin Kane said in the statement. Kane said the investment will support domestic manufacturing jobs and expand fertilizer production capacity while strengthening the agricultural supply chain. More: Hopewell seeks $40M
