Late night pursuit leads to felony DUI, fleeing charges
TUPELO – A Pontotoc County man’s attempt to outrun the Tupelo Police Department did not go as well as he had hoped Saturday night. Tupelo police attempted to pull over a car for traffic violations in the Lawndale Drive on the evening of May 11. The driver refused to stop and led officers on a pursuit. When the driver finally ended the pursuit, he jumped out of the vehicle and ran away on foot. Officers took the suspect into custody after a short chase and noticed that he showed signs of impairment. A check of the suspect’s criminal record revealed multiple arrests and convictions for driving under the influence.
Monroe County woman jailed for failed 2021 shoplifting attempt
TUPELO – Tupelo police have arrested an Amory woman who reportedly tried to steal more than $1,250 worth of merchandise from a Tupelo Walmart store three years ago. Gina R. Smith, 36, of David Street, Amory, was arrested May 10 on a capias warrant for attempted felony shoplifting. Smith reportedly tried to leave the North Gloster Walmart in July 2021 with a buggy full of merchandise including plants, two hatchets, lounge pants, boys' underwear, socks, T-shirts, Levi's and Wrangler jeans, phone screen protectors, fishing filet knives, bait and numerous fishing lures.
