Cicadas have arrived in Missouri — and they make for a ‘tender and savory' snack. Here's how
Cicadas are a nutritional boon to birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians — and yes, even humans. The insects contain a high amount of protein, fiber and minerals. “Anything you can make with shrimp you can make with cicadas,” said Nicole Pruess, invertebrate keeper at the Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House, who ate her first cicada dish last week. “We fried them up with butter, garlic, white wine, lemon juice and a little bit of fresh parsley. I thought it was going to be crunchy, but it was actually very tender and savory.”
Historic St. Louis presents ‘Landscapes of Summertime Past’ garden and house tour
Historic St. Louis is linking together 20 historical sites and museums to present “Landscapes of Summertime Past,” a summer garden and house tour in June. The one-day open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 8 at various historic sites around the region, including the Historic Sappington House, 1015 Sappington Road, and the Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site, 7400 Grant Road.

Free showing of Birth of a Song
ST. LOUIS — Filmmaker Eric Luther Ingram is having a free showing of his short film, Birth of a Song. Ingram makes a biography of his father, Luther Ingram, and the major role he played as a musician in St. Louis. He fought to get his music played along with many other musicians. The free showing happens June 1st at 3pm at 24:1 Cinema at 6755 Page Avenue.
