Police identify victim, man arrested after Topeka stabbing

Update: Topeka Police identified the victim in a stabbing Tuesday evening in the Potwin neighborhood.

The Topeka Police Department (TPD) identify the deceased as Ross L. Fapp, 79, of Topeka. All of the parties involved were known to each other.

According to TPD, this is the City’s fourth homicide of 2024.

Update: The Topeka Police Department has arrested Robert W. Fapp, 38 of Topeka, on account of aggravated battery and murder in the first degree.

TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – Topeka Police have arrested a man, after confirming one person died after a stabbing in the Potwin neighborhood Tuesday night.

Just before 8 p.m. the Topeka Police Department (TPD) responded to a reported stabbing in the 400 block of Southwest Woodlawn Avenue. According to a release from TPD, both individuals were transported to a local area hospital, where one individual’s injuries were reported as non-life threatening and the other’s injuries were reported as life threatening.

Just after 9 p.m., a TPD Watch Commander confirmed with 27 News that one of the victims is confirmed dead, the other is still receiving treatment.

A third person police believe to be involved in the incident was taken into police custody to speak with detectives at the Law Enforcement Center. This incident is being investigated as a homicide.

At 11:45p.m. on Tuesday, TPD released the following update:

As a result of the investigation Robert W. Fapp, 38, of Topeka was transported to the Shawnee County Department of Corrections where he was booked in on the following charges:

  • Aggravated Battery
  • Murder in the 1st Degree

Topeka Police say the deceased individual will not be identified until next of kin notifications have been made.
