Local school's celebrate military families with luncheon

TOMAH, Wis. (WKBT) -- Tomah School District and Sparta Area School District came together Monday to host a special luncheon dedicated to military connected students and their families.

The event is held in April in recognition of the month of the military child.

Sam Russ is the Superintendent of the Sparta Area School District. He explained the significance of the military luncheon.

"It's just a great way to honor a military child. They go through so much," said Russ. "Every few years they're moving, they're making new friends, making new stories for themselves. This is just a small way that we can give back."

The luncheon celebrated students with family members serving at Fort McCoy and Volk Field Air National Guard Base.

This was the first military luncheon put on by the schools since a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
