Former KFAN and ESPN 1500 sports radio personality Jeff Dubay has pleaded guilty after a recent drug-related arrest in Todd County.
Dubay, 56, pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence of an illicit drug on Monday. In exchange for the guilty plea, Dubay will have a felony-level 3rd-degree drug possession and an additional driving under the influence charge dismissed.
Dubay was sentenced to 90 days in jail, however, 80 of the days were set aside for two years. He was also given credit for time served for the remaining 10 days. Dubay will serve two years on probation, according to court documents.
The guilty plea comes after Dubay told the Star Tribune that the allegations against him are "full of misinformation and horrible assumptions."
According to the criminal complaint , on March 8, Dubay was seen driving a Jeep by a Minnesota State Patrol trooper "approaching an intersection then braking at the last second and making a wide sweeping right turn onto First Street heading south."
The trooper followed the Jeep and witnessed it make "jerky movements" and "traveling in the middle of the road."
After Dubay pulled in the West Union Catholic Church parking lot and then drove back onto Oak Street, the trooper initiated a traffic stop.
Dubay was found inside the Jeep "naked by covered by a blanket." He was also covered in vegetable oil.
Dubay began speaking quickly to the trooper when approached, saying he was trying to drive to Fargo and had exited the freeway to check the Minnesota Gophers hockey game on his phone. However, Fargo was the opposite way from where Dubay was heading when he was pulled over.
He also told the trooper he had been sleeping at the rest area in Avon earlier that day, according to the charges.
The complaint notes that while looking for his driving license, Dubay appeared to be sweaty and was "very restless and continued to speak rapidly." When asked why he was sweating profusely, Dubay suggested it was because he had stopped taking his medication. He then clarified he wasn't sweaty but rather "greasy."
The former DJ admitted to using methamphetamine about a week earlier. However, he later told police he had used the drug that morning.
The 56-year-old failed multiple field sobriety tests before his vehicle was searched. Police found methamphetamine and two bottles of adhesive remover. He admitted to huffing the two bottles.
Dubay has a long string of previous convictions for drug possession, as well as other convictions for assault, domestic assault, and driving offenses.
Dubay spent time at KFAN as a co-host with Paul Allen but was fired after a 2008 drug possession arrest.
