Yakima woman hospitalized after being hit by car in crosswalk
SELAH, Wash.-A Yakima woman was hospitalized after being hit by a car in Selah on the morning of May 14. According to the Washington State Patrol, a 32-year-old Yakima man in a Dodge Ram driving westbound on Goodlander Road turned left onto southbound 1st Street and hit the 63-year-old woman in the crosswalk around 9:38 a.m.
Yakima Health District Launches “Talk. They Hear You"
YAKIMA- The Yakima Health District (YHD) has launched a comprehensive multimedia campaign to help parents talk to their teens about drug risks and prevention. The campaign, “Talk. They Hear You.” aims to give parents the tools and confidence to have open and helpful conversations about drugs with their teenagers. This version of the campaign is a locally produced version of the national campaign, initially launched by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA). The goal of these campaigns are to encourage parents to start these conversations early and keep having them often, to ultimately prevent overdoses and help teens make safer choices.
'Quilts in the City' returns to Yakima
YAKIMA- “Quilts in the City” returned to the Yakima Convention Center today organized by the Yakima Valley Quilter’s Guild. The theme of this year’s show is “Where Colors Come True” and around 400 quilts are expected to be on display over the two-day event.
Liberty Christian superintendent to spend 38 hours on school roof for fundraiser
TRI-CITIES, Wash. – As part of a fundraising auction to support the Liberty Christian School, Superintendent Jim Cochran will spend 38 hours on the school’s roof. The “Raise the Roof” campaign has Cochran spending an hour on the school’s roof for every $200 raised. The live auction raised $7,600, meaning he will have to stay on the roof for 38 hours.
Cougar spotted in Selah, WDFW searching
SELAH, Wash. - A cougar was spotted in Selah Tuesday afternoon, according to the Selah Police Department. SPD says the cougar was seen at around 2 p.m. near the 500 block of South 1st Street behind the Red Rooster Bar & Grill. Officers and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) searched the area but could not find the cat.

Skate On: New lease keeps Yakima Ice Rink open for another season
YAKIMA, Wash.-The Yakima Amateur Hockey Association will be able to use the Yakima Ice Rink for another season thanks to a new lease. The new lease will allow for a full 2024-25 season, according to YAHA, including youth and adult hockey, figure skating and public skating, while the association works on a long-term solution for ice sports in the Yakima Valley.
