BOONE COUNTY, Ind. — A stabbing incident involving three juveniles in Thorntown was sparked by a dispute over THC edibles, new court docs show.

Police records filed Tuesday indicate two juvenile suspects hit and possibly stabbed a juvenile victim on Sunday afternoon. The suspects were reported to be a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy.

Boone County Sheriff’s Deputies interviewed all three juveniles. The victim initially claimed he was on his way to hang out with some of his friends when the suspects first approached him.

The victim told police that he knew the suspects because they went to school together. He added that he tried not to associate with them because they were involved in activities like smoking THC vapes.

The victim said the suspects later began hitting him, and one of them eventually stabbed him in the back. Both the victim and his father believed the 16-year-old stabbed him because he was known to behave erratically, possess a knife collection and be a “knife fanatic.”

According to court documents, the victim initially told police he thought the suspects were after his Apple AirPods when he was stabbed. During their interview with the suspects, police learned that the pair had gone after the victim because he had THC edibles.

When deputies pressed the victim about the suspects’ claims, he then clarified his story and told police he had edibles in his backpack. The juvenile claimed he was trying to get rid of the edibles and wanted to sell them to the suspects.

Court records indicate that the victim called some of his friends after he was stabbed, indicating he “wanted to handle things on his own.” His friends ultimately convinced him that he was in no condition to retaliate and needed to seek medical attention.

The victim’s friends then helped him back to his house, where his father contacted emergency personnel.

During their interviews with Boone County Sheriff’s deputies, both suspects admitted to hitting the victim. Neither suspect, however, confessed to stabbing the victim.

Court documents show that BCSO’s interview with the 17-year-old boy had to be stopped for a short time because he started acting strangely. When investigators asked the boy if he was OK, he said he was high.

One of the juveniles said that, after the incident unfolded, they went to one of their houses and ate the edibles they had stolen.

Police collected the victim’s top — a black shirt with a confederate flag and “IT’S A SOUTHERN THANG” printed on the front and “Y’ALL WOULDN’T UNDERSTAND” on the back.

Law enforcement reporting on the investigation indicates deputies did search the victim’s backpack. One of the bag’s front pockets was open and a portion of a knife handle with a pink paracord wrapped around it was visible. A red stain was present near where the knife was situated in the bag.

Court records indicate that the 16-year-old suspect showed deputies a message he received from another juvenile. The message sender wrote that he was going to kill the 17-year-old.

As of this article’s publication, it is unknown exactly how the juvenile suspects will be charged. The offenses listed in police reports pertaining to the incident are battery resulting in serious bodily injury and robbery.
