Feds get guilty plea in Dewitt County boat fraud case
A 58-year-old Farmer City man has pleaded guilty to swindling boat owners and banks out of about $4.7 million. Federal prosecutors said Jeffrey Gibbs used a DeWitt County boat dealership to take out bank loans on fake boats and false transactions, used forged signatures, sold boats on behalf of owners and then didn’t pay the owners or the taxes and title fees due to the state after collecting them.

Storm causes severe wind damage in Yoakum
As storms hit the Yoakum community on May 13, members of the city Electrical Department worked power lines on Highland and Svoboda streets. Strong winds and sheets of rain were reported. Tree limbs and trash bins were scattered in several yards. A tin roof was torn off on the right side of a building on Irvine St. in downtown Yoakum. No reports of total rain amounts were provided at press time. No injuries were reported.
Woman accused of DWI and endangering a child
VICTORIA, Texas - Around 2 a.m. Wednesday Victoria Police tried to pull over a woman in a vehicle. Authorities said she didn't stop and ended up crashing near the 1600 block of N. Vine St. Police found a two-year-old child in the back seat. It's unclear if the child was hurt or if the child had their seat belt fastened.

YISD approves Head Start contract, awards presented at May meeting
In the agenda, the Yoakum Independent School District approved a contract through INK Education Services for the school’s Head Start Program at the May 13 meeting. “This is for our Head Start Program at the Primary Annex,” Superintendent Tom Kelley said. “INK Services is funding five teachers and two floater aides. The funds we will get from this contract is $286,000.”
