Vigo County Community Health Fair educates locals

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Dozens of locals gathered at Fairbanks Park for the Vigo County Community Health Fair

The event was hosted by the IU School of Medicine and the YMCA of Vigo County with the goal of educating the community on healthy eating and other tips for their well-being. There were cooking tutorials and taste tests to go along with the fun.

It also gives medical students a great opportunity to show what they have learned, as was the case for event president Travis Owen.

“”This event is really just to help people become more knowledgeable about the local resources we have in the community,” he said. “I think Terre Haute does a great job at many non-for-profits and businesses that provide great wealth of knowledge to the local community.

While these resources are great, Owen said there is work to be done for people to become aware and utilize them.

“Often times there’s limitations about finding those resources,” he said.

This event is set to return next April, and is vital to bringing awareness and health to the community.
