A Simple Nevada Restaurant, A Legendary Chicken Fried Steak, And A Plate That Doesn’t Miss
You know Nevada for its wide-open skies, endless desert, and sunsets that look like someone painted them just to show off. I found something equally spectacular inside a simple little restaurant tucked away from all the fuss. And then it arrived: a chicken fried steak so perfectly cooked, so tender and golden, that it made everything else on the menu feel like background noise.

Burning Man art downtown, 26 more events this week in Reno-Tahoe
It's probably for the best that the week starts off with a holiday. Snow is expected to return to valley floors as a series of winter storms hitting the northern Sierra throughout the week. Thankfully, some of the week’s bigger events are happening indoors: PBR Reno is within the confines of the Reno Events Center, plus there’s Wolf Pack basketball, Knight Monsters hockey and a Beach Boys alum in concert. The highlight of the week, however, is arguably the very-outdoors Western Lights Festival, a chance to catch some of Burning Man’s most awe-inspiring art in downtown Reno. The three-day event coincides with a bit of a lull in the storms, but bundle up if you head downtown. Here’s what else is happening Feb. 16-22 in northwestern Nevada. Reno-Tahoe events, Feb. 16-22 Michael Shannon and Jason Narducy, Feb. 16: Shannon is best known for acting roles, but for more than a decade he has been singing and performing R.E.M. songs with Superchunk/Bob Mould Band musician Narducy. They will be performing the “Lifes Rich Pageant” album in full as part of their show at 8 p.m. at South Shore Room, Harrah’s Lake Tahoe Hotel and Casino, 18 Highway 50. Tickets are $45-$90.

Reno soul food joint surges after 'Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives'
When William Lyons first got an email from someone claiming to be a producer for “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” the Reno restaurant owner thought someone was selling him a fake ticket to Flavortown. A 25-year law enforcement veteran, Lyons worked as a seasoned DMV investigator before trading his uniform for a chef’s apron three years ago. “I didn’t think it was real,” the Papa What You Cooking chef and owner recounted while preparing for yet another day inside the restaurant. After exchanging emails, however, it slowly dawned on Lyons that the offer was real and spectacular. Today, Lyons is all aboard the "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" train. Since appearing on Food Network personality Guy Fieri’s show, Lyons’ soul food restaurant is seeing a huge spike in customers — with some making the drive all the way from Oakland. Papa What You Cooking was first featured on Food Network personality Guy Fieri’s show on Jan. 30. The episode, “Southern, Sweets, and Spam,” was the second episode of the show’s 43rd season and also featured restaurants in Asheville, North Carolina, and Calgary, Alberta. It is scheduled to air again on Food Network on Feb. 14. Lyons, who used to live vicariously through
