Downtown LA Moves Closer to Allowing Drinks Beyond the Bar, Joining Westside Cities

LOS ANGELES - Customers could eventually walk out of participating downtown Los Angeles bars with a drink in hand and enjoy it within designated outdoor zones under a proposal the City Council advanced Wednesday. The 12-0 vote orders a study of whether downtown Los Angeles could establish entertainment zones, following ordinances adopted in Santa Monica and Culver City. Establishing any downtown zones would require further action.Councilwoman Ysabel Jurado introduced the motion to explore whether the zones could boost nightlife and commerce while providing safeguards for nearby residents.Santa Monica launched its Third Street Promenade entertainment zone in June 2025 . Customers can carry alcoholic drinks purchased from participating businesses along the three-block stretch between Wilshire Boulevard and Broadway.The program's regular hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday through Sunday , with authorized special events permitted outside those hours. Santa Monica adopted the ordinance establishing the program on May 13, 2025 .Culver City advanced its downtown entertainment zone ordinance in April and adopted it May 11, 2026 . Its program allows outdoor drinking during permitted downtown events.Under Culver City's rules , drinks must come from authorized sellers within the zone, and participating businesses must comply with alcohol-license restrictions and the program's

It looks like Downtown Santa Monica is getting a new icy treat shop. Very faint window paper is up at 601 Wilshire Blvd Ste 124 announcing the arrival of Yogurt, All Day. It appears that proprietary yogurt bowls will be on offer. Their Instagram page gives the description for a pink fig bowl (which includes fig, granola, and coconut flakes) and a blue dream bowl (containing blueberries, blackberries, coconut, and chocolate). But perhaps what makes this place different is that savory bowls will be the menu as well. They are aiming for a Fall 2026 opening.
