TAYLOR, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Crews battled a massive brush fire in the woods near a popular shopping center in Taylor, Lackawanna County on Tuesday.

Multiple departments were called in to assist, and it took them around three hours to fully put out the fire.

The scene has been clear for several hours now, but a short time ago, crews were battling a blaze with incredible amounts of smoke for hours.

“I went on lunch break and I saw a bunch of smoke right over the hill over there and that was really it,” said White Haven resident Joshua Pilecki.

It was a smoky scene in Taylor on Tuesday as fire crews battled a massive brush fire in a large patch of woods near the Taylor Common’s Shopping Center.

Some shoppers who did not see the fire could still smell smoke lingering in the air.

“No idea there was a fire going on,” said Joseph Grecco from Scranton.

“If it’s anything like last year, we’re gonna be in for quite a bit of fire,” Pilecki added.

That NWS fire weather concern is also in place for Bradford, Susquehanna, Northern Wayne, Wyoming, Luzerne, Pike, and Southern Wayne County due to the dry and windy conditions.
