Abilene Pride Festival canceled eight days before the event
ABILENE, Texas — Last year over 1,800 people attended the Abilene Pride Festival. Due to the big crowd, the Abilene Pride Alliance booked a bigger venue at the Taylor County Expo Center. However, the venue canceled the event just eight days before the festival was supposed to take place.
Abilene Pride marks victory after federal judge throws out Texas 'Drag Ban'
Members of the Abilene Pride Alliance celebrated Tuesday night in the wake of a federal judge ruling Texas’ “Drag Ban” as unconstitutional. The APA, The Woodlands Pride and other plaintiffs sued the state’s acting attorney general, along with a handful of district attorneys and municipalities including the City of Abilene, Taylor County and Taylor County District Attorney James Hicks. According to the lawsuit, the city, county, and Hicks were named as defendants because they are “statutorily tasked with enforcing (the ban).”

Kellerton Man Sentenced to Prison for Arson and Attempt to Commit Murder
(Taylor Co) The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office says 69-year-old Ellis Earl Houk, of Kellerton, was sentenced Tuesday to two consecutive sentences of 25 years in relation to his arson and attempt to commit murder convictions. Houk was additionally sentenced to three 10-year sentences on the other three charges. The 25-year sentences ran consecutive will require Houk to spend a mandatory 35-years in custody without the chance to parole.

Ellis Earl Houk, 69, of Kellerton, was sentenced Sept. 19 to two consecutive sentences of 25 years each in relation to arson and attempt to commit murder convictions. Houk additionally received three 10 year sentences on convictions of burglary, first degree; criminal mischief, first degree and willful injury - causing serious injury from the same incident.

Kellerton man sentenced to 50-years on arson & attempted murder convictions
(Bedford, Iowa) – A Kellerton man who was found guilty in Taylor County on numerous charges, was sentenced today (Tuesday) to two consecutive 25 year prison terms. Ellis Earl Houk, who was 69-years-old when he was found guilty on Aug. 3rd, 2023, was additionally sentenced to three 10 year sentences on the other three charges. Catch Scarecrow Views and Autumn Hues at Annual Texas Festival
The Annual Scarecrow Festival at the Taylor County History Center (TCHC) and Buffalo Gap Historic Village (BGHV) is scheduled to run from September 25 through November 4, 2023. All scarecrows will then be moved to the Center for Contemporary Arts (CCA) for Abilene ArtWalk on Thursday, November 9, and remain on view until November 16, 2023.
