TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The family of a 14-year-old boy who was shot and killed last week is seeking answers in his death. The victim’s family gathered for a healing vigil for crime survivors.

In a bid for justice, the family of Jevario Buie is hoping to jog someone’s memory.

On April 17, Jevario Buie was found shot to death by the train tracks near West Busch Boulevard and Rome Avenue. Police said he died from a gunshot wound, and they are still working to figure out who killed him.

“So, right now the reward is 8,000 dollars for information leading to an arrest of those perpetrators who committed this crime against Jevario Buie, my grandson,” Buie’s grandfather Michael Baldwin Sr. said.

“He was only 14 years old; he was never in a gang, I always kept my kids close to me,” the victim’s mother said.

At just 14 years old, Jevario’s family said he had his whole life ahead of him and was looking forward to growing up.

“We were doing an application for him to start his first job, two hours later he was dead,” his mother added.

At a vigil for victims of unsolved homicides in Tampa, Buie’s loved ones made a loud plea for help bringing their family justice.

“It is actually sad, it is sad, you have so many people who are experiencing what we are experiencing right now, and having to use that experience to help people navigate you know, but it is also encouraging to know if they can make it, we gone make it to,” Baldwin said.

Detectives at Tampa police said even the smallest detail could be crucial in solving this case or any case to bring families the closure they need.

A GoFundMe has been set up for the family.
