CENTER VALLEY — Hazleton Area’s path to a victory Friday looked quite familiar. The Cougars used it in their PIAA Class 6A baseball first-round win a few days earlier. Lefty Antonio Doganiero threw a complete-game shutout, the offense made the most of limited opportunities and the defense was flawless as Hazleton Area defeated Neshaminy 2-0 in a quarterfinal game at DeSales University.
State police search for motorcyclist who fled near Frackville
RYAN TWP., Pa. – Pennsylvania State Police are asking for the public's help after they say a man fled from them on a motorcycle in Schuylkill County. State police say they attempted a traffic stop of a sport-style motorcycle on Saturday, May 25, around 3:10 p.m., but the driver took off at a high speed on Route 61 northbound in Ryan Township.
Allentown, East Penn school districts dismiss for summer

19-year-old arrested in deaths of teens found in Schuylkill County woods, authorities said
A 19-year-old Schuylkill County man has been arrested in the deaths of two teens found in a wooded area last fall, authorities said. Lamour Branch, of Port Carbon, Schuylkill County, is charged with four counts felony murder; six counts felony aggravated assault; five counts misdemeanor simple assault; two counts misdemeanor possessing an instrument of crime; three counts misdemeanor reckless endangerment; and two counts misdemeanor tampering with evidence.
Driver Killed After 10-Mile Pursuit With PSP Identified By Lehigh Coroner
Troopers were attempting to stop Matthew Stepp, of Lehighton, in a 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 for code violations around 6:24 p.m. Thursday, Trooper Anthony Petroski III said. Stepp failed to stop, though, initiating a 10-mile pursuit, during which Stepp "committed numerous vehicle code violations," Petroski said. He ultimately lost control, left the roadway and struck a tree near Hazelwood Road and Laural Lane, Towamensing Township, according to Petroski and Lehigh County Coroner Daniel Buglio.
Luzerne County hospital had put newborn babies' lives at risk, state report says
HAZLETON, LUZERNE CO. (WOLF) — The state Department of Health reported that a hospital in Luzerne County put newborn babies' lives in danger. According to the Department of Health, the report was the result of an "unannounced complaint investigation" conducted on Jan. 24 and 25 at Lehigh Valley Hospital Hazleton.
