Roadside fire apparently caused by sparks from a chain
A vehicle pulling a trailer was traveling on County Road 607 in Athens around 3 p.m. on Tuesday when witnesses stated that a chain from the trailer was dragging on the pavement and sparking, which caught the side of the road on fire. The fire spread and burned a fifth of an acre. The Etowah Rural Fire, Etowah City Fire and Englewood Rural Fire departments all responded. Etowah Rural Fire Asst. Chief Kevin Elliott was in command of the scene.
