SWANSEA — You have to go back to his youth days when Sam Perry last walked off the hill with a no-hitter. He had a pair of no-nos while playing baseball for the Westport Babe Ruth League.

On Tuesday, the Bengals junior captain spun his magic against league opponent Southeastern .

Perry tossed his first high school no-hitter for undefeated Diman, blanking the Hawks in a brilliant, complete-game effort on the hill, 4-0, at the Swansea YMCA complex.

"I feel great (right now)," Perry said. "Everything was working today. They could not catch up to the fastball. Their coach was telling them to look for fastballs but when I threw my off-breaking stuff, they just stood there and watched a lot of pitches down the middle of the plate."

It was Bengals' fifth consecutive win to start the season, thanks in large part to the right arm of Perry.

Perry tossed his second straight complete-game shutout — his first coming in his first start against Durfee a week ago when he allowed just two hits while striking out 12 batters.

Against Southeastern, Perry fanned 14 batters and walked four batters to help Diman (5-0; 2-0 in Mayflower Large) remain unbeaten.

"I mean the team is trying to use me as much as they can," he said. "Even if I'm closing or starting, I'm feeling great. We've been doing just enough at the plate. We haven't been overpowering but if we're not letting up any runs and we get a couple, we're still coming out with the win."

So far this season, Perry has made an appearance in all five games, including a three-inning stint against Westport. Two of the games — Bristol-Plymouth and West Bridgewater — Perry threw scoreless, hitless seventh innings.

Notes

Diman collected five hits overall with Kole Andrade leading the way with two hits and an RBI. Other hits for the Bengals were Perry, Levi Russell and Charlie Vernon.
