Clemson University Trustees Clarify Army Corps Owes Responsibility for Saddle Dike Seepage
During last week’s Board of Trustees meeting, Clemson University leaders expressed strong concern over public confusion regarding seepage at the Clemson Saddle Dike, emphasizing that maintenance and repairs fall strictly under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Trustee Smyth McKissick urged proactive community engagement to avoid public misperception—drawing comparisons to past local controversies—while Senior Vice President Angie Leidinger noted that University President Benjamin Ayers has even asked the Corps to consider renaming the structure to prevent further confusion, as the Corps works through drought-related lake level restrictions and dam safety studies to fix the ongoing issue.

Tajeh Watson-Martin has big game on birthday as Westside football beats Fountain Inn
Westside senior football player Tajeh Watson-Martin seemed certain to have a good game on his birthday Oct. 16 against Fountain Inn. "When does Tajeh have a bad day?" Rams coach Brian Lane said. He had 215 yards on nine grabs. "I was hoping that it was going to be my night," said Watson-Martin, who was selected for the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas all-star game to be held at Spartanburg High School. "Honestly, if I didn't have a good game and we didn't win, it wouldn't be a good birthday."
