17 years since EF5 tornado struck Greensburg
GREENSBURG, Kan. (KWCH) - May 4, 2007, is a day that will always be remembered in Kansas and among those who track severe weather. On that day, 17 years ago, an EF5 tornado nearly wiped out the entire town of Greensburg. The twister struck around 9:45 p.m. that night killing 11 people and injuring 63 others. According to the National Weather Service, the tornado destroyed 95 percent of the town, which consisted of 1,383 people, and caused around $250 million in damage.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2015 Peterbilt semi pulling a tanker trailer and driven by Liibbe, Lyle G Liibbe, 64, Plainview, Nebraska, was westbound on U.S. 54 highway one half mile west of 120th Avenue.
