SULLIVAN’S ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) – A local organization is hosting an Earth Day celebration on Sullivan’s Island to showcase the wonders of the island’s maritime forest.

SI for All (Sullivan’s Island for All) is hosting the event in front of the Poe Library located at 1921 I’On Ave from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We want everyone on the island and beyond to come see how the maritime forest fits into the bigger environmental picture,” said SI For All President Karen Byko. “Every experience at the event is centered around nature and conservation.”

All are invited to explore Sullivan’s Island’s Maritime Forest with a guided tour and learn the value of native plants. A live bird banding demonstration will also be available for attendees to watch and learn how to identify individual birds.

Officials have announced that food vendors such as Mac Daddy Food Truck and Kona Ice will be in attendance.

“We want to sincerely thank all of our sponsors,” said Dr. Norman Khoury, Treasurer of Sullivan’s Island for All. “Their support will allow us to continue to provide free educational programming to inspire kids and adults to protect this special place we call home.”
