Storm causes severe wind damage in Yoakum
As storms hit the Yoakum community on May 13, members of the city Electrical Department worked power lines on Highland and Svoboda streets. Strong winds and sheets of rain were reported. Tree limbs and trash bins were scattered in several yards. A tin roof was torn off on the right side of a building on Irvine St. in downtown Yoakum. No reports of total rain amounts were provided at press time. No injuries were reported.

Sacred Heart Church Spring picnic is Sunday, May 26
The annual Sacred Heart Parish Spring picnic will take place Sunday, May 26 with all activities at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Hallettsville. The traditional meal consisting of country fried chicken, stew, homemade cornbread dressing with all the trimmings will be served in the hall from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. The cost of the dinner plates are $13.00.
Rock Island residents encouraged to ‘ask questions, get answers and provide input’
In an effort to encourage open conversations between Rock Island officials and residents outside the city hall setting, the city said they will hold another Rock Island Unplugged event, this time featuring Mayor Mike Thoms and department directors.
Brahmas defeat Lytle, 7-3
KARNES CITY – Hallettsville seemed headed for a runrule game with Lytle after leading 7-0 in its area round playoff contest. But things got a little dicey after Lytle rallied for three runs in the sixth inning before the Brahmas held on for a 7-3 victory at Perkins Field Friday night.
