STILLWATER — While it’s been a quiet spring in the transfer portal for Oklahoma State football, the Cowboys made a big addition at the running back position — emphasis on “big.”

The Pokes have added former Indiana running back Trent Howland, who is listed at 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds. A native of Joliet, Illinois, Howland appeared in 11 games as a redshirt sophomore last season, rushing for 354 yards and two touchdowns on 75 carries.

He has two years of eligibility remaining, so he can provide depth behind returning Doak Walker Award winner Ollie Gordon II in the fall, and be a veteran presence in 2025, when the Cowboy backfield is expected to be very young.

With another strong season, Gordon could very well be off to the NFL after this season, and behind him, OSU has senior A.J. Green, who transferred from Arkansas with one year of eligibility remaining.

Then the other three scholarships belong to freshmen — Sesi Vailahi, who appeared in three games while redshirting last year, plus Rodney Fields Jr. and Jaden Allen-Hendrix, both high school signees who will arrive in June.

As reported by 247Sports.com, Green posted a photo on social media of his foot in a cast over the weekend, though no specifics about his injury have been made public.

Howland has appeared in 22 games during his three seasons at Indiana, including special teams work.
