Dixmoor upgrades surveillance technologies while awaiting Flock camera installations

Surveillance technology upgrades are underway in Dixmoor, village officials announced at the Oct. 22 board meeting. Police Chief Eric Armstrong said eight Axon surveillance cameras are being installed in the village, with four eventually to be replaced by Flock cameras with license plate-reading capabilities. He did not have the exact locations of the cameras at the time of the meeting. Armstrong said the police department is getting a price estimate for an additional camera to install at a site with frequent dumping.

Pritzker appeals FEMA’s decision to deny Illinois disaster aid

SPRINGFIELD — Gov. JB Pritzker appealed the Trump administration's decision to deny Illinois' request for federal disaster relief on Thursday. The Federal Emergency Management Agency denied Illinois' request last month without explanation for federal resources to respond to August storms. In an appeal submitted to the agency, the state provided updated damage numbers showing the storm cost eligible for public assistance is now $43 million — up from $27.6 million in the original request and well above FEMA's $24.9 million standard.

Chicago Man Rode a Lincoln Towing Hood — Jury Awards Him $2.85 Million

A Cook County jury has ordered Lincoln Towing to pay Jermall Harvey $2.85 million over an October 2022 incident in which he says he ended up clinging to the hood of a moving tow truck outside a Wicker Park CVS. Nearly two-thirds of that award came as punitive damages, the largest reported punitive-damages award of its kind in Cook County municipal districts.
