Statesville man accused of sexually assaulting minor, sending explicit text messages

STATESVILLE, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A Statesville man accused of sexually assaulting a minor has been arrested, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday.

An investigation was launched after a report was received regarding Charles Browne, 61, of Statesville, and sexually explicit text messages he had been sending to a minor. A further investigation stated that Browne had sexually assaulted the juvenile within the past year.

A warrant was issued for Browne’s arrest and he was taken into custody on Tuesday, April 23, the sheriff’s office said.

He is being held on a $50,000 secured bond for indecent liberties with a child and no bond for felony statutory sex offenses with a child.

Browne has a criminal history that includes DWI and assault on a female charges.
